Mabel Ward Williams

February 22, 1908 - February 11, 1977

​​Mabel Ward Williams was the daughter of Percy Ward and Bertha Ward. Born February 22, 1908, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, she died February 11, 1977, in Bremerton, Washington, and is buried in Greenwood Memorial Park in Renton, Washington. She was the oldest daughter and the family called her "Sister" as she acted as a nursemaid to her younger siblings. She attended Merrill High School in Pine Bluff and also worked at the Pine Hotel.

 

On May 28, 1928, she married Floyd E. Williams Sr, a buddy of her Brother, Chester. Year after marriage She and her husband left Arkansas in 1934 and settled on Vashon Island, Washington, where they bought a farm home with fourteen acres. Her hobbies were cooking and canning for her family, growing beautiful flowers, raising canary birds, crocheting and other needlework, sewing clothing, fishing, and photography. She was a very conscientious homemaker who always looked out for everyone else. In 1944 the Williams Family moved to Bremerton, Washington, where they eventually purchased a home with one acre.

 

In Bremerton, she began employment at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard as a Matron over the Navy Waves in the Supply Department. She later transferred to the Ship Fitters Shop where she was a cashier in the cafeteria until she retired from there in 1960. She and her husband also had a concession job at the Bremerton Elks Club which the family maintained for forty years. She and her husband made many sacrifices for their family.
